At Trewirgie Infants' & Nursery we encourage a healthy lifestyle to support physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.
This is encouraged throughout all of our PE lessons where our PE specialist teaches every class every week; carefully planning, monitoring, assessing and supporting the physical development of all of our children.
The three key areas of PE are Games, Gymnastics and Dance; these are taught throughout the year, with net games and athletics during the summer term.
Specialist events are held throughout the year such as our healthy schools activity week, which involves coaches from local sporting clubs, healthy school coordinators and local organisations working with our children.
This year we had a very enjoyable visit from an Olympic athlete who came into our school for the day to work with all of our children, inspiring them all to work hard to achieve their best.
We employ a sports facilitator who supports the pupils to be active and healthy by setting up and running various activities during the lunchtime and throughout the afternoon.
We offer various extra curricular sporting clubs throughout the year; football, multiskills, cycling, tennis, cricket, rounders and tag rugby to further enhance the curriculum.
Competition is encouraged through house competitions, sports days and individual PE lessons. We compete regularly for the 'Tin Cup' in tag rugby, football and gymnastics against another local Infant School.
All of our children regularly attend our outdoor forest school. They learn about the environment, how to look after it, appreciate and care for plants, bugs and all living things. They play games, climb trees and enjoy hot chocolate with a story in the log seat area.
We were re-accredited with our 'healthy schools' status in June 2014 and support this throughout the school day.
We believe that our children are active, happy children who enjoy physical activity in school, which supports and motivates them to achieve in all other areas of the curriculum.
